Building a greenhouse is a real project, but it does not have to feel overwhelming. Use this guide to prepare your site, understand the construction sequence and keep the right instructions close at hand.

The big picture

Build in a clear, dependable order.

Every greenhouse is a little different, but the overall sequence stays familiar. Read the manual for your exact kit before starting and use this overview to understand what comes next.

    Choose and prepare the site

    Pick a level, well-drained location with good sun and access. Remove brush, roots, rocks and anything that will interfere with layout or ground stakes.

  2. 02

    Lay out and square the footprint

    Mark all four corners, verify the width and length, then compare both diagonal measurements. Equal diagonals mean the footprint is square.

  3. 03

    Set the ground stakes

    Follow the spacing in your manual. Keep every stake aligned, plumb and at the correct finished height before installing the frame.

  4. 04

    Assemble hoops and purlins

    Build each hoop on a flat surface, place it into the matching stakes and connect the structure with purlins. Tighten progressively as alignment is confirmed.

  5. 05

    Complete ends and ventilation

    Install end-wall framing, doors and ventilation components before the main plastic whenever your kit instructions call for it.

  6. 06

    Install and tension the covering

    Choose a calm, mild day. Center the plastic, secure it in the recommended sequence and work evenly to create a smooth, properly tensioned cover.

A visual layout helper

Start square and the rest fits better.

After marking your corners, measure diagonally from corner to corner. Adjust the layout until both diagonal measurements match. A simple 3–4–5 triangle is another reliable way to establish a 90-degree corner.

Measure the greenhouse footprint—not nearby fences, buildings or property lines. Those reference points may not be square.

Before build day

Prepare the work, then work the plan.

A little organization prevents the most common delays. Do these things before your crew arrives or the first stake goes into the ground.

Review the instructions from beginning to end. Flag the steps that need extra people, special tools or weather-sensitive timing.

Inventory and sort parts

Group matching fittings, fasteners, hoop pieces and purlins. Keep labels visible and compare everything with your packing information.

Prepare tools and helpers

Have measuring tapes, levels, string lines, ladders, drivers and personal protective equipment ready before assembly starts.

Watch the weather

Plan plastic installation for a calm day. Wind makes large sheets difficult to control and can create an unsafe situation.

Safety and site responsibility

Call 811 before digging, check for overhead hazards, use appropriate protective equipment and follow local permit, setback, wind and snow-load requirements. Stop work when weather or site conditions become unsafe.

Common build questions

Know before you start.

How many people should help with the build?
Crew needs depend on the greenhouse size, site and current step. Many frame tasks are manageable with a small crew, while lifting hoops and installing large sheets of plastic are safer and easier with additional helpers.
Does my site need to be perfectly level?
The site should be as level and consistent as practical, with good drainage. A sloped or uneven footprint makes alignment, door installation and plastic tension more difficult. Ask Sunbow about your site before building if you are unsure.
When should I install the greenhouse plastic?
Install the plastic only after the frame, end-wall components and required ventilation parts are ready. Choose a calm day and follow the attachment sequence in your manual.
What if a part appears to be missing?
Pause the affected step, check all packaging and compare the part with your packing information. Take a clear photo and contact Sunbow with your order name, greenhouse size and the step you are working on.
Can I change the design while building?
Contact Sunbow before changing structural spacing, bracing, anchors or attachment methods. Unplanned changes can affect fit, strength and covering installation.
